Playing Your Cards Right: Mastering the Art of Human Interactions

Sometimes, human interactions resemble a game of poker. In the game, players maintain a poker face to conceal their thoughts and emotions, aiming to win the hand. There is an air of anticipation about which card the opponent across the table will play next. When engaged in such a competitive interaction with others, do you know which card is the final one in your hand that secures the win?

The Gospels provide profound insights into Jesus' life and teachings, including the concept of loving one's enemies. Jesus instructed: "But I tell you, love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you, so that you may be children of your Father in heaven. He makes the sun rise on both the evil and the good, and sends rain on the righteous and the unrighteous. If you love only those who love you, what reward will you receive? Even tax collectors do that. And if you greet only your own people, what are you doing more than others? Don't even pagans do that? Therefore, be perfect, just as your heavenly Father is perfect." - Matthew 5:43-48

Though easier said than done, loving one's enemies is a powerful strategy that triumphs in any competitive scenario. This is because love consistently covers, protects, and trusts. It propels Christ's disciples into a different realm, one that reflects the atmosphere of heaven. It is a kingdom devoid of competition, where love and truth work together in maintaining a truthful and loving atmosphere.

To practice walking in Love, it’s necessary to relearn certain things. This week, you can begin a new journey of learning to love from the heart of Jesus. Consider contemplating 1 Corinthians 13 each day this week, reflecting on different aspects of divine love as revealed in the Scriptures. Meditate on them and ask the Holy Spirit to begin teaching you about love.

You already hold the love card, ready for when your opponent makes their next move. The key is to prayerfully find the inspiration to know when and how to play this love card you've been given. "If you really keep the royal law found in Scripture, 'Love your neighbor as yourself,' you are doing right." - James 2:8 NIV

“He will cover you with his feathers, and under his wings you will find refuge; his faithfulness will be your shield and rampart.” - Psalm 91:4
