When an Ending Becomes a Beginning
Creative Helping Hands was born from a season of rediscovering hope, identity, and creativity.
My name is Tea Deak, and I am a missionary serving in a church in Tuzla, Bosnia and Herzegovina. The story of Creative Helping Hands did not begin with a carefully planned vision. It began during a season when I was learning to slow down, listen more closely, and discover what God might be doing beneath the surface.
As I began exploring writing, painting, photography, and mixed media, I discovered a side of creativity I had not known before. What started as a personal journey gradually became a way of reflecting on faith, identity, and the everyday moments through which God can speak.
Learning to Slow Down
For much of life, it is easy to keep moving—to serve, accomplish, plan, and look toward what comes next. But some seasons invite us to slow down.
For me, slowing down created space to notice things I might otherwise have missed.
I started writing.
I began painting.
I took photographs.
I experimented with mixed media.
I went on long walks and hikes, often carrying questions with me.
Along the way, I began to see creativity differently. It became more than something I enjoyed. It became a way of paying attention, processing what I was learning, and finding meaning in ordinary moments.
A flower could remind me of resilience.
A valley could become a picture of a difficult season.
A walk could become a prayer.
A conversation could become an unexpected encouragement.
I began to notice that God can use the simplest things to draw our attention back to what matters.
Rediscovering Identity
One of the most important things I began to understand was that our identity is deeper than what we do or what we accomplish.
It is easy to measure ourselves by productivity, success, circumstances, or even the seasons when life feels difficult. But none of these things tell the whole story.
We are not simply what we produce.
We are not our failures.
We are not our most difficult seasons.
We are not defined by what we have lost.
Our deepest identity is found in the One who created us.
This became an important part of my own journey and, over time, became one of the central ideas behind Creative Helping Hands.
Why Creative Helping Hands?
Creative Helping Hands grew from a desire to share what I was discovering.
I wanted to create a space where faith, creativity, stories, and everyday moments could meet—a place where people could pause, reflect, and perhaps see their own stories from a different perspective.
Through art, writing, photography, and creative reflection, I hope to encourage others who may be navigating a difficult season, searching for direction, rediscovering their identity, or simply beginning something new.
I don't believe every season needs to be understood immediately. Sometimes we simply need to take the next step, remain open, and trust that something meaningful may be growing beneath the surface.
My hope is that something you find here will encourage you to slow down, look a little closer, and turn toward God in whatever season you are walking through.
The Sunflower
One image has become especially meaningful to me: the sunflower.
A sunflower turns toward the sun. In much the same way, I believe we are invited to continually turn toward our Source—Jesus.
The sunflower also reminds me that growth takes time.
It begins as a seed.
It pushes through the soil.
It grows toward the light.
It flowers.
And eventually, it produces seeds that can grow into many more sunflowers.
I see something of our own journey in that process.
We grow.
We struggle.
We discover.
We become.
And what God grows in us can eventually become a seed of encouragement for someone else.
A Field of Sunflowers
My vision is to plant a field of sunflowers.
Not literally—but through people.
People who rediscover their identity.
People who find renewed hope.
People who discover their creativity.
People who learn to turn toward Jesus in every season.
And people whose own growth becomes a seed of hope for someone else.
That is the heart behind Creative Helping Hands.
If you are somewhere along that journey, I hope you will find a place here to pause, explore, create, and discover more of who you were created to be.
