“I am not a creative person” is a lie. It is a common misconception. God is a Creator, and so are we. We are created in His image. “For we are God's handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.” - Ephesians 2:10 NIV

If a person is not creative, a well of creativity can be dug out. One way to dig out the well of creativity is to keep inviting Jesus into struggling areas of the heart and journal the journey. Over time, a new well of creativity emerges.

Here are a couple of questions that can get you going today, but first open your heart to examination. Do not hold back.

  1.  As you read the poem “sunflower on my doorstep”, what emotions are evoked in your struggling heart?

  2. Are you afraid of “dying”?

  3. What scares you the most?

Write your thoughts and feelings in a prayer journal.

Sunflower on my doorstep

I tell to my neighbor:

“Good morning”,

As I am stepping out the door.

I am smiling while leaving my home.

“Look! Someone left a sunflower at my door.”

I tell to my neighbor with a surprise on my face.

The neighbor greets me by saying:

“It is not from me.”

Sunflowers make me smile,

they brighten my day.

I am smiling as I am embarking a new journey,

A new day.

The next morning I open my eyes,

with a smile on my face.

I look at my sunflower resting in a vase.

Soon I realize it is time for a new phase.

A beautiful sunflower head is now looking down.

Its leaves and petals are withering

And losing their yesterday’s shine.

My sunflower is dying, and so am I.

I watch the sunflower wither,

as I gather its seeds.

A new cycle is approaching,

a new season of planting is coming near.

After journaling, ponder on:

“Whoever wants to be my disciple must deny themselves and take up their cross and follow me. For whoever wants to save their life will lose it, but whoever loses their life for me will find it.” - Matthew 16:24-26
