What lessons can we learn from moss about the restoration process?

Mosses are plants that do not produce flowers; instead, they generate spores and have stems and leaves, but they do not have true roots. Often overlooked, these tiny plants have extraordinary features. They can survive extreme conditions, with some mosses enduring temperatures up to 100ºC when dried out, and as low as -272ºC.

Mosses play a vital role in establishing new ecosystems. They are typically the first plants to colonize areas that have been disturbed, such as those affected by deforestation or forest fires. By drawing nutrients from the air and depositing them into the soil, mosses help stabilize, protect, and enrich the soil. Additionally, they absorb a large amount of water and slowly release it, supplying moisture to the roots of other plants.

There is a great deal to learn from nature and the processes of God’s creation. Within the complex web of fragile and fractured human relationships, restoration occurs through different processes. Rather than placing trust in people, it is wiser to trust in God’s process. Although it can be challenging to trust in the unseen rather than the seen, it is essential for healing and restoration to occur.

At times, the heart's soil must be rejuvenated before trust and friendship can take root again. To ensure the heart's soil has the necessary nutrients for certain seeds to thrive, spiritual moss must be sown to mend the broken pieces of the heart.

Today, I encourage you not to seek a quick solution for mending broken relationships, but to place your trust in God's process. Invite the Holy Spirit to examine your heart for any relational brokenness. As He uncovers areas where trust and love are lacking, ask Him to plant spiritual seeds from the Word of God that will gradually cultivate the right heart conditions for fostering a healthy relationship when the time is right.

What Bible stories or verses do you think of when you pray and reflect on spiritual growth? You can ask the Holy Spirit to sow those seeds in your heart, preparing your heart's soil to foster conditions for future renewal.

Poem: "Garden of Eden"

I am done trying to please everyone around me.

I am done trying to fill every void.

I am done trying to hide from deep feelings.

I choose to embrace delight.

I board the boat to Eden,

a garden of rest from all pain.

I take your hand, Jesus.

I choose your embrace.

Your embrace offers solace.

You restore my heart's soil.

I ask You, Jesus, to show love to people

Through healed wounds of my soul.

Let's cherish them together from Eden,

A place of the Father's pleasure for every heart.

Let us bring joy and offer free tickets to Eden.

To everyone who feels broken and seeks delight.
