Pass it on while alive

My father loved books and had a large collection of good reads. Before dad died, he gave an instruction to pass on the books to people who love to read and were his family or close friends.

Looking at my rather small collection of personal ‘good reads’, I did not want to leave this world like my father. I do not not want my small, but valuable collection of books to collect dust just because I might want to re-read some of them one day. There are treasures in these books that are waiting to be found and they are meant to be shared.

I know that there is a risk for my ‘pearls’ to be trampled by ‘pigs’. I’ve learned that the hard way. So, I made a decision. I decided to share my ‘pearls’ with those that know how to appreciate its value. With a book that I give to someone, I give a piece of my heart.

In a place of prayer sometimes Holy Spirit prompts my heart to give one of my treasures to someone who appreciates good reads. I give my books with one specific instruction: “Please share when you do not need the book any longer, but share it with someone who will see its value.”

Do you have a valuable book you can pass on this month? Make sure you communicate to the recipient how is the gift valuable to you, before you ‘pass it on’. Ask God to show you the right person, and the right moment when to share your ‘pearl’. Turn your book into a gift that keeps giving, blessing and imparting.

Ponder on:

“Do not give dogs what is sacred; do not throw your pearls to pigs. If you do, they may trample them under their feet, and turn and tear you to pieces.” - Matthew 7:6
