Several months ago I was inspired to start creating a set of creative mirrors as a result of personal processes of introspection. It was a creative answer to my ongoing asking Holy Spirit to search my heart (Psalm 139:23-24).

By looking at the Word of God as a mirror (James 1:22-27), I often invite Holy Spirit to search my heart for anything I am deceiving myself. I want to see a real reflection of my own heart.

After a while, I was inspired to share with other people creative experiences of an art of introspection. Creative mirrors that I make while praying are usually intended for someone I pray for while processing something. It is a creative invitation to other people to invite Holy Spirit to search their hearts too.

Introspection is creating space to reveal heart’s deceptions. “The human heart is the most deceitful of all things, and desperately wicked. Who really knows how bad it is? But I, the LORD, search all hearts and examine secret motives. I give all people their due rewards, according to what their actions deserve.” - Jeremiah 17:9-10 In return, it is creating space for healing and creating of something new in a person’s heart.

Here is my latest invitation to introspection:

Mirror #11

Tea Deak, “The arrested hopes” 2024. Mixed media on cardboard.

Look at yourself in the mirror. Are you embracing your current struggle/pain or are  you denying it?

There are times when you do not want other people to know about struggles you are going through. You do not want them to see the pain that you are enduring.

Like Peter following Jesus after the arrest, you are embracing the struggle from a distance. You are unable to suffer embarrassment of the arrest of your hopes in front of other people.

Read and ponder on Luke 22: 54-62

Like Jesus knew that Peter would deny Him three times, He knows your capacity too. He knows you love Him, but He also knows that it will take you some time to be ready to face embarrassment of your arrested hopes and dreams.

Embrace the struggle without fear of judgement. Struggle of the arrested hopes is building your endurance. Victory of the cross overcomes its temporary embarrassment and pain.
