Come into the Sea

“Arise, shine, for your light has come, and the glory of the Lord rises upon you.”— Isaiah 60:1

I painted Come into the Sea during a season of disappointment and uncertainty. After two years of waiting, our church still had not received the final permit needed to begin building. I found myself asking God why the process was taking so long and longing for an answer.

Instead of giving me an explanation, I sensed God giving me an invitation.

During my prayer walks, I began noticing people carrying their own kind of waiting—people who felt unseen, rejected, overlooked, or forgotten. Slowly, my attention shifted from what I was waiting for to the people around me who were also waiting for hope.

This painting grew out of that journey.

The sea represents those places of uncertainty where we cannot see clearly or touch the bottom. The lifesaver carries a simple message: hope can enter even the deepest water.

Perhaps you recognize someone in this sea. Perhaps, at times, that person is you.

But you are not forgotten.

And while you are waiting for your own answers, God may be inviting you to notice someone else who is waiting too.

You do not need to have everything figured out before you can carry hope. Sometimes a compassionate heart, a listening ear, or a simple act of kindness can become a lifesaver to someone who feels they are sinking.
