My dear friend Jane, who lives in the Lake District, England, takes her dog Hattie, who has dementia (yes, dogs can suffer from dementia too), for a walk every morning. This walk is an extension of her morning devotional time, during which she worships God, sings, and listens to the gentle guidance of the Holy Spirit. As she waits for the Lord's response, she discovers daily encouragements. I've invited Jane to share one of her recent experiences with Creative Helping Hands subscribers.

When I am out and about walking, the Lord often speaks to me through nature. Recently, I noticed this oak tree; it stopped me in my tracks.

The ‘Mighty Oak ’ as referred to in the U.K. has a unique root system which goes deep often 4 times the size of the tree canopy!

Small acorns form which drop to the ground and go into the earth to form the oak trees. Some oaks have experienced 800 Spring seasons!

As I looked at the tree I feel after recent ‘emotional storms’ in my live I can identify with the tree, broken, shattered, looking dejected. However what made the biggest impact was the tree stood tall despite how it looked I was immediately drawn to think about the roots and the realization of how important our roots are as children of God.

Colossians Chapter 2:6-7 came to mind while my attention was drawn to the oak tree on the photo I took that morning: "So then, just as you received Christ Jesus as Lord , continue to live your lives in him, rooted and built up in him, strengthened in the faith you were taught, and overflowing with thankfulness."

Be encouraged that despite our difficulties if we grow our roots deep in Christ we can with his help overcome.

When out walking next look up and around and be ready for what the Lord has to say to you so you can grow your roots deep and be planted firmly in Jesus.
