Finding Peace and Healing Through Reflection and Forgiveness

Several years back, I was tasked with journaling "healing journal" from someone else's healing journey as part of my own inner healing process. A year later, I felt inspired to create healing journal writing prompts for others, drawing from examples in my own healing experience. If you're seeking assistance in your healing journey, today's blog post is crafted just for you!

While going through some healing journal writing prompts yesterday, I was reminded of past struggles and encountered a surprising one. This prompt was about a painful memory linked to a sad song named after Iris.

Just a week or two ago, I wrote two blog posts about irises and created a painting featuring a large iris. During this period, I didn't remember a painful memory from the past associated with irises. Surprisingly, as I think of irises, only positive new experiences come to mind. I continue to enjoy their beauty and delightful fragrance while passing by some in Tuzla. I also pause to take photos of them.

I don't know when exactly I found peace and healing about the particular issue, but somewhere on a journey of reflection and forgiveness I did. I needed to revisit the healing journal entry I wrote in 2024 to recall the negative memories associated with irises. Upon reflection, I realized that the pain had disappeared, and now I love irises. Sometimes, while we are working through pain and moving forward, we don't notice when healing occurs, but it does happen at some point during the healing journey.

Today, I encourage you to thoughtfully reflect on an item in your home that evokes negative emotions and pain. Search through your drawers, browse old albums, and examine items until you identify the one that unsettles your feelings.

Take some time to contemplate the painful memories associated with an item and write about it in a journal. If possible, channel your emotions creatively, whether through writing a poem, drawing, or painting. Allow yourself to grieve and cry if needed, and don't hurry the process, even if it takes several days.

During your journey of reflection, forgiveness, and releasing the past, you will discover hope, joy, and healing in moments of stillness. This process will allow you to make room for new, positive experiences associated with an item. Eventually, the negative emotions or memories will fade. If you keep today's journal for future reference, you too might be surprised that the pain is gone without you even noticing. I hope today's story inspires you and that you also discover healing through journaling!

There is healing in the process!

"Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will." Romans 12:2
